La Palude di Brivio, nature of Europe
After flowing out of Lake Como at Lecco, the river Adda runs for about 54 kilometres before arriving at Truccazzano. In the northern part of the park there are PreAlpine hills, lakes Garlate and Olginate and the wetlands of the Palude di Brivio (the Brivio Marsh)in the towns of Brivio, Cisano Bergamasco, Monte Marenzo and Calolziocorte. The marsh covers an area of 265 hectares where, over the centuries, the river has created numerous varieties of ecological systems. These go from willow woods on the banks of the Adda to enormous thickets of reeds and carex and finally to alders and the characteristic wetland trees of black alders. In the year 2000 this nature reserve was added to the list of Sites of Community Importance and in 2004 there began a remarkable partnership between The Park Authority, the WWF and The Local Hunting Association with the common purpose of preserving and protecting the area. www.legambientelecco.it
